For over 100 years, we've kept the secret of the authentic Banja Luka ćevap

Our story began in 1923, when Redžep Đuzel, the head of a family from the Glamoč area, used his savings to open a hospitality business in Banja Luka — a city with fewer than 20,000 residents at the time but a vital stop on trade routes through central Bosnia to the west.
In 1966, the business was passed on to his son Mujo Đuzel, who became the most famous ćevap master in Banja Luka. Mujo didn’t just inherit the business — he created a legacy that lives on today.
"If you haven’t tried the Banja Luka ćevap, it’s like you’ve never really been to Banja Luka."

Mujo Đuzel, originally from Glamoč where his mother moved in 1941, grew up in Banja Luka and became synonymous with the Banja Luka ćevap. He was a man with a vision — he wanted his ćevap to stand out and be unmistakably unique.
His customers loved him not only for the taste of his ćevapi but for who he was. Cleanliness and meat quality were never to be compromised. The story of the Banja Luka ćevap became an urban legend, and Mujo was often written about by journalists and historians.
Mujo created a unique 'block' of four ćevaps that retains the meat’s juices and makes every bite perfect.
The Banja Luka ćevap stands apart from all other types thanks to its unique shape, flavor, and way of serving. This culinary creation has become a symbol of Banja Luka and one of Bosnia and Herzegovina’s most recognized gastronomic brands.

The precise spice ratio and preparation method have been passed down for four generations, preserving the authentic flavor recognized by millions around the world.
Watch a documentary story about our century-old tradition and the secrets behind making authentic Banja Luka ćevap.
After Mujo's passing in 1991, his daughter Emina Smailagić continued the tradition, having worked with her father since she was 12. She passed the skills to her brothers and sons, safeguarding the original recipe.
Emina Smailagić, Mujo’s daughter, carried on the family tradition until 2003, when she passed it on to Mujo’s grandchildren. She was the guardian of the original recipe and preparation techniques taught by her father.
Today, Mujo’s grandsons Amir and Adis Smailagić preserve the tradition as the fourth generation of Banja Luka’s most renowned ćevap makers. They continue to uphold the original recipes and techniques.
